Wordless Wednesday: The Art Of Sleep

by | Mar 30, 2011 | Wordless Wednesday | 20 comments

Kids are notorious for resisting sleep. But when they do eventually give in, it makes for some breathtaking photographic moments.

Like this…

Sleeping Beauty Let's hope he grows up to be emo – those eyelashes with mascara? I die.

But it can also make for some serious photographic hilarity.

I have a friend who has a Facebook album dedicated to the wacky ways her daughter falls asleep – think whilst wearing fairy wings or hugging shoes. Because there's nothing quite as comforting as snuggling up to a pair of Crocs.

Now I don't want to be competitive or anything but I have my own wacky sleeper. So I see my friend's Crocs and I raise her –

A CARROT! Hold me close, tiny carrot

THE FLOOR!This chair leg is comfy!

And because it was so comfy the last time,

THE FLOOR AGAIN!This won't hurt in the morning...

If it's been a particularly hard day at the office, LD has even been known to fall asleep sitting up on the couch. But this is fraught with danger…..

Look out LD! He's going to finger paint a dick and balls on your face!

Everything you need to know about Zee's personality? Is right there in the photo above.

Sweet dreams….

Hello friends

I’m Angie!  I mum. I write. I wife. My husband would say this is the correct order.  He’s so neeeedy. I live with my family in Melbourne, Australia, where I complain about the weather for 90% of the year – but I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Except maybe in Lake Como, waving to my neighbours George and Amal each morning.

Oh my god, Rae, Zee is just so incredibly cheeky. He was so deliberately messing with his brother. He makes me laugh so much.

Hardly a baby anymore. He blew me a kiss tonight. Le sigh.

Meanwhile, LD is pretending he doesn’t want to sleep. Maybe I should take him a carrot?

    Thanks, Tash 🙂

What is it with kids and the wacky sleeping positions?

Especially when it so’s hard to get them to go to sleep in the first place. Tucked up in a comfy bed? Oh no, can’t sleep here. Turn my body into a pretzel on the floor? Oh yes, now I’m relaxed!

Love those pictures! I only have one or two of the kids sleeping–I’m paranoid I’ll forget to turn the flash off and then I’ll have a wide awake kid (horror)!

My six-year-old goes to sleep in his bed but winds up on the floor, curled up to the rocking chair, or sometimes torso on the floor and legs still on the mattress.

When I saw the first photo, I sighed. Such beauty.

Then I saw the others, and just about peed my pants. Gawd bless that boy. A carrot? Why not?

Start compiling that FB album, babe. It is ON 😉

Oh yeah, the floorboards: with a comfy chair leg for a pillow!

Zee with a permanent marker? Hilarious.

That’s a little boy you’re looking at, babe! I know, I know, he needs a haircut and to stop being so gosh, darn purty!

But yes, the child who refuses to sleep can fall asleep anywhere. Weird!

Ha! What is with the crazy repositioning once they’re asleep. It never looks comfortable, does it?

I am deeply cautious about waking my 16 month old with photography. He’s a light sleeper. But LD, once he’s out, he’s out. It’s great!

    ON!

Although the weirdo sleeping seems to have calmed down somewhat. Annoying. I am not above staging scenes. Just so you know….

LOL, love all of those pics! The carrot one takes the cake though (maybe you could try a piece of cake next time? HA HA), and the one of cheeky Ziggy poking is hilarious!

I have so many more, Dan, but I was so tired last night I could barely type my name. A whole catalogue of sleeping photos of LD. Zee, not so many. He is the lightest sleeper IN THE WORLD. When he’s asleep, I don’t fuck around!
