The Little Daily: Smile!

Something new on the blog; introducing The Little Daily, where I share a photo with you…daily (I was going for subtly with the title, see?).

Promising to do anything daily when you have three children is foolhardy. It's like when, at 8pm after the kids are finally asleep and the first sips of beer are making their way through your bloodstream, you turn to your hubs, face flushed and warm, and say, "I love you, baby" which is code for, "When we're in bed tonight, I'm going to let you take my pants off – but not my socks because I get really cold feet" and then he's all like, "Let's go now" and you're all like, "I've just gotta check Facebook" and then he goes and watches some weird Kung Fu movie with subtitles because he knows that in an hour you'll head to bed complaining that you stayed up too late again and that beer made you soooo tired, and trying to shag you now would be like trying to seduce a corpse.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, The Little Daily. Here it is, inaugurally and shit.

The Little Daily 30.6
Luca is desperate to make his baby sister smile, and is frequently miffed at how readily she will smile at others. And by others, I mean me. Now because I am generous with my daughter's smiles and happy to share them around, I give Luca pointers on how best to receive them. For instance, I say, why not keep your own face at least 10 centimetres away from hers because you're fucking terrifying her. Also, I suggest gently, quit the spooky humming and robot fingers thing you're doing right in front of her face, and just try sitting quietly and smiling at her.

Luca took all of this on board and the above? Is his version of the quiet smiling. Personally, this crazed reverse overbite makes me nervous but Harlow appears to be quite the fan.

Hello friends

I’m Angie!  I mum. I write. I wife. My husband would say this is the correct order.  He’s so neeeedy. I live with my family in Melbourne, Australia, where I complain about the weather for 90% of the year – but I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Except maybe in Lake Como, waving to my neighbours George and Amal each morning.

Thanks, Fran. I think maybe this is because I don’t have an iPhone and Instagram and thought, “Screw it, I’m doing my own thing!”

Brilliant idea, and I look forward to seeing your snaps each day. I’ve been toying – for a long time – with the idea of doing one of those 365 day photo challenges for my blog (not the Fat Mum Slim one, although kudos to her for starting something so big right now).

Are you rediscovering your DSLR then? I hope to get back into mine, now that we have some proper natural light in this new apartment!

I just know I would fail at the 365 challenge – the way I’m doing it means I’m not held to a theme and can mine retro shots as well – and man, there are some gems.

But maybe later when the kids are older I want to do a proper challenge. I think it develops the photographer’s eye so well.

The DSLR is always out and about but as to exploring its myriad functions – no. Still mostly on auto here. Sad face.
